Chester Hockey Club youth section enjoyed a fruitful year last season and we are all hoping the 2007/2008 season will be as good or even better. On the playing side the Badgers went from strength to strength under the guidance of Clive Wilkinson and Jimmy Ormandy, there were strong showings from the girls under 15s and the boys under 13s, and over fifty other players from the youth section competed for the club at different age levels, - a remarkable achievement by all. Off the pitch the main developments have revolved around the club aiming to gain the Club First Award and we are happy to report that, as of this summer, we are in a position to submit our bid. In light of this, we may have a number of inspections from time to time this season and parents should be aware that they may be asked a few questions about their experiences of our club by the inspectors.
Once again to the playing achievements in the club, and a number of our members past and present represented their county, region or country Two former members of the club, Gemma Ible and Sam Queck won gold at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival. Proof of the successful youth development programme and coaching at Chester. Sophie Clough, Emma Blair, Jess Ollerhead, Kirsty Dalton, Rebecca Newmarch, Siobahn Barnard and Alex Perratt all represented the county in their respective age groups. Elan Iorwerth, Philip Roper, John Roper, Sean Blain and Steven Hall all gained recognition at regional level for either the North West of England or the North of Wales. Finally, we had four players who achieved international recognition. They were Sian French (WelshU16 Girls), Sarah Underhill (Welsh U16 and U18 Girls), Sioned Roberts (Welsh U18 Girls) and David Bond (Welsh U18 Boys). On behalf of everyone associated wth Chester Hockey Club well done to you all.
This year will see some changes to the running of the junior section. Daff Jones has decided to step down as co-ordinator of the junior section, this part of the club now being overseen by Chris Platts, although you will still see Daff around from time to time on a Sunday. I am sure you will all join us in thanking him for his hard work and effort over the past years. Stuart Field is moving to become the Ladies first team coach and Matt Oakley (better known as Dudly!) is taking over as Head Coach of the junior section. Congratulations to both Matt and Stuart on their appointments.
More good news, the subscriptions are remaining the same as last season (£15) and in addition members of the junior section over eleven will receive a free ball, whilst under elevens will receive a club shirt. Training starts this year on the 9th September at 10-30am so we hope to see you all there and remember to bring a friend! Finally, keep yourself up to date with all the developments concerning the junior section, by revisiting the Chester Hockey Club website.
