Vintage vs Southampton - Saturday 24th November 2007

Won 4-0

Pride of place this weekend must go to the ageless ones who cast countless rays of light in a dazzling display of mesmeric hockey to beat a good team from Southampton. Quickly into their stride Chester’s version of total hockey had their opponents grasping at shadows as the passes splintered the defence only for the final touch to go awry at the last. However with greater intent in the second half Robbie Smith hammered the ball home after a defence splitting pass from Evans. This was quickly followed by a balletic duet from the Roper and Ible dance partnership leading to a goal for the senior member of the team. Ible later added a second and then a third after excellent passes from Thompson and Smith played him into a position to unleash two rising thunderbolts leaving a bewildered keeper flat on his back. It was a fine team performance with all fifteen squad members playing a significant part in this excellent victory.

Veterans vs Wakefield - Chester Vintage National Cup, 27th October 2007

Won 2-1

Chester’s high energy levels eventually dominated a tiring opposition as the venerable stalwarts strutted their considerable skills in this first round victory in the National Cup competition. Evergreen Andy Ible lashed home an unstoppable thunderbolt for the first goal as Bond and Winter fought valiantly in midfield while the youthful, occasionally effervescent Ormandy dazzled on the right wing. Honours even at halftime Chester mounted a series of devastating attacking forays which eventually ended in Jimmy Ormandy gliding the ball goalwards from a seemingly impossible angle. Robust defending from Lewis, Williams and Ible guided Chester into the next round.
