Men’s 2nd X1 vs Prescott 1st - Saturday 1st March 2008
Won 9-4
Chester dominated from the off and swiftly put Prescott to the sword. Chester led 4-1 at half time with Prescott left bamboozled by the flair of the Chester attack. Chester's forward line was rampant scoring at will, being well supported by the midfield with even Peter Pan Yates scoring following a well worked move.
After the break Chester threw caution to the wind and continued the attacking mentality which allowed Prescott to lunch several counter-attacks resulting in 3 well finished goals, however this was not going to spoil Chester's' day with Thomas completing his hayrick, Selley and Tester bagging pair and Davies roofing a flick past despairing Prescott Keeper. The result was never in doubt.
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Mossley Hill - Saturday 23rd February 2008
Won 3-2
Chester started well and made their early pressure tell when Tester smashed the bass passed the advancing keeper. Man of the match Yates was controlling the midfield and a big score looked possible. However Chester lost concentration and two quick goals due to some poor passing and Mossley Hill upped their game sensing a win. The Chester side then equalised before half time when Selley slotted home. The second half was hard fought with Chester creating several good opportunities but at 2 all relied on Daf the Kitten to keep them in the game. 5 minutes before the end Chester secured 3 points when Selley finished from close in. Chester back to winning ways.
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Brooklands Men’s 3rd X1 - Saturday 16th February 2008
Lost 5-0
Chester struggled to find form against top of the league Brooklands. Brooklands were in control of the game although the score line flattered and led by 2 well worked goals at the break. An excellent debut by man of the match Greg Tandy masked Chester's poor passing performance. Chester did not create enough chances or provide enough quality ball to the forward line to make an impact and Brooklands benefitted from 2 late goals to secure their position at the top of the table.
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Southport 2nd X1 - Saturday 26th January 2008
Drew 2-2
Scorers - Richard Selley and Ian Boothroyd
A disappointing result and more a case of 2 points lost rather than one point gained. A bad day at the office meant few chances were created and the two goals from Richard Selley and Captain Boothroyd meant Chester could only scramble a draw. Southport had little to offer, but Chester did not capitalise on the large amount of possession that they achieved. Hopefully next week at home to Alderley Edge will prove more successful.
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Wilmslow 2nd X1 - Saturday 19th January 2008
Won 3-2
Scorers - Ian Boothroyd, Chris Moulson, Sean Blain
This was never going to be an easy fixture, and it required all of Chester's skill and experience to negotiate it. Wilmslow started quickly and scored an incisive goal after all of the early pressure, but Chester kept their composure and generated momentum of their own culminating in a penalty conversion by captain reliable. Wilmslow then converted a penalty corner of their own but were running out of ideas as Chester exuded class and confidence. Pivotal to the Chester performance was Neil Leo in the centre of the field who picked passes and tackled ruthlessly, easily Chester's man of the match. Chester made the most of their pressure and goal a game Moulson slotted at the back post and Blain riffled in from the top of the circle. The game became ugly as Wilmslow lost their cool and two players were sent to the sin bin but confident umpiring prevented complete breakdown. With 10 minutes to go Chester were put under pressure as the Wilmslow home crowd urged them forward, only to be met by some cool defending and two stunning saves from Daf the Kitten Jones. Chester close the gap on promotion.
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Morecambe - Saturday 12th January 2008
Won 9-0
Chester welcomed Morecambe with open arms. Having been robbed of 2 points with a 2-2 draw at the start of the season, Chester needed to exert revenge and that is exactly what they did. To score 9 goals and concede 0 was a very pleasing start to the second half of the season. Opportunities were a plenty and if Chester had converted all their chances it could have been 20. Richard Selley took 4 and Chris Moulson took 2, being the main contributors. A good debut performance from Chris Nicholas supported tirelessly by Chris Moulson and Chris Thomas made for easy pickings. Mark Townend returned to league status after prolonged injury (old age) and Goalkeeper Jones injured his neck because he was stood in the same position for so long, but should be fit for next week.
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Timperley 2nds - Saturday 8th December 2007
Won 5-2
A good end to the first half of the season saw Chester convincingly earn 3 points and solidify their position in the promotion race. From the start Chester’s dominance showed, with Captain Caveman marshalling Field and Yates to stifle any attack Timperley could offer. Ashley Blakemore, Matt Hyden and Richard Selley tormented the Timperley defence and three goals in quick succession gave Chester a convincing lead and Stu Field made it four with a superb individual effort minutes later. Two strikes and two goals for the opposition would never be enough to affect the result and the game was sealed by Leo Guy close to the end.
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Alderley Edge 2nd X1 - Saturday 17th November 2007
Won 4-1
Striken by injury and stag night fever, a young and dynamic side travelled to Alderley. A convincing display of hockey and the win was never in doubt. 4 goals in quick succession struck to the heart of Alderley who had little in reply. Scorers, Andy Dickson (2), Steve Hall (1), Richard Selley (1).
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Timperley - Saturday 3rd November 2007
Lost 3-2
Chester were commanding for the first half and went into the half time break leading one nil. Harvey Shaw struck a sublime penalty corner over the keepers pads to put Chester's nose ahead. Timperley had only managed one attempt on goal in the first half, but within 5 minutes of the restart, had taken the lead. Their third was a scrappy goal and Chester then crawled one back through a Penalty Stroke converted by Captain Calamity. With ten minutes still to go, several penalty corners were awarded but Chester could not convert and were left unrewarded. A very frustrating day at the office!
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Deeside 2nds - Saturday 27th October 2007
Won 2-1
This local derby match forms part of Chester folklore and twice a year it is a hotly contested fixture. From the first whistle Chester made their intentions clear and before long were creating opportunities to score. Ashley Blakemore danced in and around the opposition defence causing numerous problems and a deflected shot from Andy Dickson opened the scoring. Steve Hall and Blakemore halted the Deeside attack on every front and with Chris Moulson and Andy Dickson working tirelessly on the flanks, there was little opposition presence in the Chester half. Daf "The Kitten" Jones made some great reaction saves to keep Chester ahead before Blakemore coolly slotted home Chester's second. Harvey Shaw worked hard in the middle of the park supported by Newman and Yates to ensure that the opposition went home frustrated. A fantastic team performance throughout the side and three more points on the board.
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Prescott Men's 1st X1 - Saturday 20th October 2007
Won 5-1
Scorers - Blakemore 3, Dickson 1, S. Newman 1
Chester travelled to second in the league Prescott without captain marvellous. However vice captain Daf ‘the Kitten’ Jones led the Chester pride well. Chester dominated this hard fought, tough tackling fixture and deserved the lead before half time when Blakemore broke through and hit a sweet reverse shot into the bottom corner. In the second half the experience of Shaw and G. Newman snuffed out all Prescott had to offer. Blakemore struck again after incisive passing by Hewson and Painter, another reverse stick shot bamboozling the Prescott keeper. The Prescott keeper continued with his torrid afternoon when he brought down the rampant Blakemore. S. Newman stood up in the captains absence to duly dispatch the penalty. New boy Dickson then made it 4 nil after some excellent goalkeeping by Jones in the Chester goal before Blakemore secured his man of the match award by converting his hat trick. Prescott scored their consolation goal from a penalty corner with the last hit of the match. Job done Chester up to third in the league
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Mossley Hill - Saturday 13th October 2007
Won 2-0
After last Saturday's debacle and a few stern words from the unhappy Captain, the Chester team that turned up on the pitch this week was unrecognisable from last week. The result was never in doubt, but an 8-0 scoreline would have more reflected Chester's dominance. The Mossley Hill keeper had the game of his life, frustrating the Chester forward line as the shots rained down on his goal. Discipline was key, and keeping 11 men on the pitch for the full 70minutes made life easy. Daf "The Kitten" Jones had little to do in the goal, but when called into action was equal to anything the visitors could offer. Doug's older brother was again affective upfront, Steve "The Jeweller" Hall worked tirelessly in the middle of the field backed by veteran Shaw. Dave Newman got Chester's first goal and Steve Hall converted to make it 2. A very pleasing result.
Men’s 2nd X1 vs Wilmslow - Saturday 22nd September 2007
Won 5-1
Welcome to the league, was the cry, when newly promoted Wilmslow were sent home with their tails between their legs on Saturday. Chester took control from the first minute. A number of penalty corners resulted in M. Shaw nutmegging the Wilmslow keeper from the top of the circle to open the scoring. Captain Courageous made it 2 from the penalty spot minutes later following some good stick work from Blakemore and Doug's older brother. Wilmslow replied with a soft effort, but that was to be the end of their momentum. The work rate of P. Tavern and " Jingly-Jangly" S. Hall meant Chester created numerous opportunities. Evans converted from close range and so did Selley, but the goal of the day came from No.7 Blakemore. With 5 minutes to go, he skipped passed three defenders, sold the keeper a sublime dummy to fire home into an empty net. A good start to the league season. Chester travel to Morecambe next week.
